Calibrating the classroom to professional-grade standard

Service:
Program Calibration
Strong CTE programs are built on clear alignment. Drawing on nearly four decades of experience, Dr. Lisa Hill partners with schools to align standards/competencies, instruction, and assessment within CTE programs. Her work focuses on helping educators establish clear expectations for teaching and learning, define the skills students are expected to develop, and ensure those expectations are consistently reflected in instruction and assessment. The result is a more focused program where teaching is intentional, expectations are clear, and student learning is better supported.

When to consider Program Calibration...
-
Programs operate independently, with limited connection across CTE areas
-
Grading practices make it difficult to clearly define and communicate student learning
-
Expectations for student learning are unclear or interpreted differently within programs
-
Teachers are experts in their field, but lack a structure to support one another as a professional learning community
What this calibrates within a CTE program...
-
Clear expectations for what students should know and be able to do
-
Instruction that is intentional and aligned to those expectations
-
Grading practices that accurately reflect what students know and can do
What this looks like in practice...
-
Reviewing standards, instruction, and assessment to ensure alignment
-
Identifying gaps and inconsistencies within programs
-
Clarifying expectations for teaching, learning, and student performance
-
Supporting teams in aligning instruction and grading practices
This work is designed for...
-
CTE teachers working to clarify expectations for student learning and strengthen their programs
-
CTE teams bringing together diverse expertise while functioning as a cross-functional team
-
Instructional leaders supporting greater clarity and coherence within and across CTE programs
